About our ATC Gamechanger Pro

About our ATC Gamechanger Pro We chose an Aluminum Toy Hauler, not because we have any toys to haul, but because we wanted a high-quality trailer that we could build out residential and make our own. We had big plans to outfit our RV to turn it into a true home-on-wheels, but those plans needed to be condensed when production delays moved our delivery date from June to October. Nevertheless, there were still a lot of projects we wanted to get done before hitting the road. These are just some of the main ones:

In the upcoming blog posts, I will give summaries of the different projects. Some, of course, were more involved than others, and in true RV life fashion, some should have been easy but proved nothing but. However, as the rig is coming together, we are excited to know it will be the cozy abode we were hoping for.

In this post, I want to show some before pictures and talk a little about the specs of our trailer. This Aluminum Toy Hauler is called the Gamechanger Pro and is made by ATC (Aluminum Trailer Company). It is a 2816 model. This means that it's 28 feet long and has 16 feet of "garage" space, aka space to haul your toys (motorcycles, ATVs, etc.), or in our case, 16 feet of living room. The bedroom is in the nose of the trailer, the bathroom is across from the door, and the main space, including the kitchen, is in the rear. The trailer is a bumper bull, so it attaches with a ball hitch to our truck. The tongue of the trailer is 6 feet long, giving plenty of space to house our generator and two propane tanks. The trailer is 8.5 feet wide and has no slides, since when hauling toys, there is no space for slides to come in.

The Gamechanger is designed to be durable and easy to clean. It's all aluminum, from frame to finishes. It has Azdel fiberglass composite walls and airline tracks throughout the main space. These tracks are for modular furniture and also serve as places to tie town toys while in transit. Last but not least is the ramp door at the rear of the trailer. It's built to be dual-purpose: when in its down position, you can drive your toys up it and into the trailer; or you can level it out with cables and turn it into a patio. This is what we will be using it for.

We ordered the Pro version so we could customize the look and some of the finishes. We opted for white exterior and interior. White exterior helps to keep the temperature more regulated than darker colors, and for the inside, it best fit my aesthetic vision. We opted for no exterior decals, and we have a few other mods that can't be seen in the photos below, like a tankless water heater.

You will notice in these photos that, while there is a lot of space, it's pretty basic. We actually opted to not get any stock furniture because we knew we'd be replacing it anyway. So, ATC ended up giving us just the fold-down dining table. You will also notice that the floor is corrugated aluminum, but the trailer did come with a vinyl mat for the kitchen/dining area. This mat is removable. The mat that runs through the bathroom and bedroom is not.

Even before bringing our own flavor to the RV, we felt comfortable in it right away. During our week towing it back from NC to MA, it had everything we needed, but we knew we wanted to make it more livable before we hit the road full-time. Stay tuned to see some of the changes we've made!
