Our Second Harvest Host Stay. No Ditches This Time!

We're keeping our boondocking adventures minimal until we figure out our water situation, but once in a while we need to have a quick overnight to break up a long drive distance. This is where Harvest Hosts comes in handy. Businesses all across the country - wineries, breweries, farms, golf courses, even churches - can sign up to be a host, allowing RVers to park on their property for an overnight. In return, we will purchase a product or donate to the organization as a thank you. The membership quickly pays for itself if you're a regular user of these locations.
After spending time outside of Columbia, SC, we needed to make our way down to Florida in time for our next reservation. The drive would have been over 400 miles, which is more than we like to tackle in a day. So, we decided to stop in southern SC at Herd it Here Farm. We love visiting farm animals and were excited to take a break from the RV parks. Tanner seems to prefer the parks, still unsure of what to do with all the "big weird looking dogs" hanging out by our trailer.

This was Tanner's reaction to farm animals when we first started training him in preparation for Harvest Host stays. Thankfully he's doing much better, despite having a ways to go. Exposure makes progress!
Owners Bill and Sheryl fulfilled their dream of farm life back in 2019. Since becoming Harvest Hosts, they have been able to offer up their pasture and alpaca fleece products to campers who stop by for a good night's rest. We happened to book our stay on the farm's busiest evening to date. Bill let us know that he was expecting 8 RVs in total that night! We were first to arrive, and so we chose our spot on a gravel road alongside the pasture. We were leaving early the next morning to make our way to Florida, so this gave us an exit without disturbing the other campers.

We had a wonderful afternoon meeting all the animals. I even played harp for them! We also got to watch their feeding time. Later in the evening, we sat by the communal campfire and got to know our fellow RVers.

Thankfully, our water pump held out for the night, and we were able to enjoy this unique stay before heading back to the highway.
