Another year in the books! Our Season 2 recap and Q&A

Another year in the books! Our Season 2 recap and Q&A

December 30, 2021 was the day we closed on the sale of our house, moved all our remaining stuff to my parents' garage, and began our lives as full-time RVers. It was not a day to celebrate. I was an emotional wreck, saying goodbye to the only home Anthony and I had ever owned. The amount of stuff we still had, despite holding a yard sale and selling/donating rooms' worth, was overwhelming. We still had more to get rid of, and then somehow fit the rest in our 28ft RV, leaving a few bins behind for storage in my parents' house. The thought "what have we done?!?!" crossed my mind many, many times. Somewhere deep down, though, were our reasons for making this massive change. Freedom - both physical and financial. Satisfying a long-dormant wanderlust. Learning and growing more than we ever could if we stayed put. And hopefully, somewhere along the road, finding those moments where instead of asking ourselves "What have we done?!," we're asking ourselves, "How is this real life?!"

Fast forward to December 30, 2022, and we had just finished our first year of travels...well, almost year. The chaos of December 30, 2021 didn't really set us up to leave New Year's 2021, and so we left on February 22, 2022. Still, December 30 held a special place in our hearts. We got to see the immensely stark difference between then and now. We could tell our past selves YES, to all of the above. YES, we found freedom. YES, we satisfied our wanderlust. YES, we learned a heck of a lot and grew as humans, spouses, pet parents, RVers, remote workers, and so much more. And YES, this life that we painstakingly carved out for ourselves was now gifting us surreal, extraordinary moments. Not only that, but we were already heading out again, embarking on Season 2 of travels. Unlike 2021, we successfully left New Year's weekend.

This year, we repeated the process: In before Thanksgiving, out by New Year's. By the time you're reading this, Season 3 of travels has begun, but there is still so much to reminisce about from Season 2. Once again, our reasons for travel were fulfilled:

  • Physical freedom? Heck yes! We expanded our horizons even more, this time heading all the way west.
  • Financial freedom? We spent less per night on campgrounds this year than last year, discovering gorgeous places to boondock and utilizing our new solar installation to its full potential.
  • Learning and growing? From both the difficult experiences as well as the amazing ones.
  • Asking ourselves "How is this real life?!" Looking back, some of those moments still don't seem real.

Whenever anyone asks us about our second year of travel, the same word comes to both Anthony's and my minds:

Epic.

Everything this year seemed bigger, grander, and more remarkable. We traveled more miles, reaching as far west as Palm Springs, CA, as far south as Mexico, and as far north as Glacier, Montana. We were no longer the newbies learning the ins and outs of full-time travel. We were the campers comfortable enough to choose wonky sites and maneuver into them like we had done it dozens of times...because we had. We hit some of the most sought-after destinations in the country, but we also found local gems that were incomprehensibly spectacular. We faced some big obstacles but somehow managed to stay the course, completing all our most essential stops along the way. We learned more about our country than we ever did in our 2+ decades of schooling. We broadened our community by attending RV events and making connections on the road. And most importantly, we expanded our comfort zones, proving to ourselves that we can thrive beyond the comforts of familiar territory.

Just like last year, we've gathered up your questions for our annual Q&A video. We talk about our most memorable experiences on the road in 2023, plus we talk about our plans for Season 3 of full-time travel.
